The Build Rehabilitation Work Activity program is a sheltered work program designed to assist developmentally disabled adults in their pursuit of vocational skill. Persons served develop a strong work ethic and on the job work skills, as they earn a paycheck. Consumers enrolled in the Work Activity Program (WAP), also known as the Work Services Program, engage in piece rated work, and enjoy working on a wide array of jobs.

Staff supervisors work directly with clients to broaden their individual tolerance for work as well as their ability to take on new tasks. Build also has bilingual staff members for consumers who don’t consider English to be their first language. Supervisory staff are enthusiastic and possess extensive experience with the Developmentally Disabled adult population. Persons enrolled in the WAP participate in the production of items for jobs contracted from many different manufacturers from across southern California. The WAP and consumers receive training in shrink-wrap, L-Sealer, collating, etc. The Build WAP also assists trainees in the development of appropriate work habits and attitudes, and also enables trainees to work toward Community Employment and Community Integration through the use of Pre-Placement Job Preparation Classes.
